Are you wearing BUSY like a badge?

Mums say it, students say it, whoever we are we’ve probably told someone this week about how busy we are!

Being busy has somehow become a badge of honour. It’s like we’ve adopted this notion that if your not busy then your not important or hard working or worse still worthy!

Personally I have a pet peeve with this ‘b’ word, and am consciously eliminating it from my vocabulary.

Busy, busy, busy doesn’t necessarily mean your getting anything done it denotes you don’t have time to do other things.

Courtney Boyer explains how this simple word ‘busy’ affects everything. ‘You see our brain is always listening. It hears the words we use and takes them as cues to create situations and experiences that reflect them. For example, if I’m consistently using the word busy to describe my mood, my actions, and my outlook, how do you think I’m going to show up in those areas? You better believe it-busy.’

Busy leads to

*burnout

*overwhelm

*exhaustion

*resentment

*anxiety

So how do you live a quieter life with more space, time and freedom?

  • Be conscious of how many times you use the word ‘busy’.

  • Regulary check in with yourself and be present.

  • If you do feel overwhelmed give yourself permission to close your eyes for a few moments and focus on your breath.

  • Remind yourself it’s ok to have space in your day when your not in a meeting or running around after your kids.

  • Learn to prioritise and be ok with saying no. Saying no to one thing may mean yes to something else, self care, your family.

Make a conscious decision every day to do a little less, choose a little less and push a little less.

Busy is a state of mind we need to free ourselves from.
